Fabric Flower Mini-quilt Project with Allie Aller
Make-it-yourself project: includes supplies kit & digital instruction packet
This year we’re partnering with artist Allie Aller and one of her favorite NYC garment district shops, M&S Schmalberg, to offer a special project kit that celebrates New York City’s textile heritage. M&S is a family-owned company that has been making custom fabric flowers for over 100 years, and Allie has worked with them on so many projects, they now feel like family to her!
This charming kit, designed by Allie as a special fundraiser just for Quilters Take a Moment, includes everything you need to create an 11″ x 8.5″ mini quilt featuring a floral wreath surrounding an appliqued “Thank You” center. Background sky fabric is provided by our generous sponsor Stacy Michell of Shades Textiles. You provide the fabric for the lettering applique, quilt backing and binding. Batting provided by Mountain Mist. Give the finished piece as a gift and/or take a photo of it and create your own custom Thank You cards. We’ll be sharing a video chat with Allie about her work and this project and invite you to attend a Q&A session with her later this spring. We’re also planning a virtual tour of the M&S Schmalberg factory led by New Yorker Paula Nadelstern, internationally recognized quilter and designer.
